The former leader of German duo Modern Talking, Thomas Anders will crown the winner of the Miss Azerbaijan 2010 contest.
'The final of the contest will be held on 23 May. The winner will be selected by professional jurors. We are not going to disclose their names yet, but I can only say that specialists of almost all branches of culture and art will be represented,' the general producer of the competition, Nazim Samedov, said today.
He said that the winners in several categories, including Miss Internet, could be be selected through online voting.
'This competition has not been held in Azerbaijan since 2006. We want to revive the tradition and invite many foreign guests to Baku,' the producer said
Nazim Samedov said that the selection process would be transparent. There will be a daily blog and programmes on the Lider television channel from 16 March.
'The winner of the contest will receive a car and an apartment in Baku, as well as many other prizes,' Samedov said.
He said that contestants had to be at least 170 cm tall, aged between 18 and 26 years, unmarried and citizens of Azerbaijan.
'Thirty girls will be selected first, and then 14 contestants will be chosen, the best of whom will be selected in various categories,' Samadov said.
The director of the contest is Ulviya Konul. 'This is the first time I have taken part in this kind of project, but the organizers were able to convince me that this would be a very interesting event for Azerbaijan,' she said.
Nizam Samedov said that representatives of the Miss Universe contest would attend the Azerbaijani final.
'It's quite possible that a number of agreements will be reached with them so that the winner of the Miss Azerbaijan contest will be able to compete against the most beautiful girls in the world for the title Miss Universe,' he said.
